For long term food storage there is nothing like having your bean soup put together… all ready for the soup pot. This is a wonderful, easy, long term storage item for your family. Also, this bean soup mix makes an ideal gift for a friend.
Calico Bean Soup Mix For Long Term Food Storage
2/3 C. Yellow split peas
2/3 C. Green split peas
2/3 C. Dried Lima beans. (small size)
2/3 C. Dried Pinto beans
1/2 C. Dry Kidney beans
1/2 C. Dried Great Northern beans (small size)
1/2 C. Dried minced onion
4 tsp. Beef bouillon granules
1/2 tsp. ground cumin
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
1 tsp. salt
Layer the ingredients in the order given into a wide-mouth 1 Qt. canning jar. Pack each layer in place before adding the next ingredient.
*It may seem that it’s impossible to make all of the ingredients fit into the jar. But… if you pack each layer tightly, and with persistence, all the ingredients fit.
You can remove the air from the jar by using your Vacuum Sealer. This mix stores for several years without any problem. If you don’t remove the air from the jar, I would use the product within a year. Store your jar in a cool dark place.
If you have a Mylar bag sealer, you can use it. Remove air from the bag.

Thanks for sharing. What a great post. I have been experimenting with making some of my own mixes like this one. I sometimes find that the different types of beans do not all cook at the same rate. Some will be tender, some not quite and some mushy. Do you have that problem (maybe it is just me).
I am having a link party this week featuring mixes that can be made from food storage products. I would love it if you would link up.
